These are the virtual SecureEdge appliances.
The “VT” designation essentially means:
Virtual appliance rather than physical appliance.
So instead of purchasing a physical Barracuda box, the customer runs SecureEdge virtually within an appropriate virtualized infrastructure.

The important distinction is therefore:
T-series = physical appliance

Barracuda’s documentation confirms the VT range as VT100–VT5000 and treats these as SecureEdge Site devices alongside the physical T-series.
When would you choose VT instead of T?
A customer might choose a VT appliance when they already have:

- A virtualized data centre
- Cloud/virtual infrastructure
- Existing compute resources
- A requirement to avoid dedicated security hardware
In other words:
T-series: “Give me a Barracuda appliance.”
VT-series: “Give me the Barracuda security/networking capability as a virtual appliance.”
The Barracuda Web Security Gateway is primarily a web security/web filtering platform. Its capabilities include:

The current Barracuda datasheet identifies the Web Security Gateway 610B as a 1U appliance with up to 1,700 Mbps throughput and up to 8,000 concurrent users.
